Eu Safe data
The Safe Harbor agreement allowed US companies to store data for their European customers in the US. As covered in worldwide news, a European court recently invalidated the Safe Harbor framework. This affected many American companies, famously Facebook, who has a lot of unwieldy data that makes complying difficult.

The ruling was the result of a legal challenge by an Austrian privacy campaigner, Max Schrems, who was concerned that Facebook might be sharing Europeans’ personal data with US cyber-spies. The news of the nullification of the EU Safe Harbor agreement was concerning to some and celebrated by others. “It clarifies that mass surveillance violates our fundamental rights,” says Schrems.

JotForm, an online form builder based in San Francisco, was the first to create a solution to the nullification beyond presenting users with legalese and fine print. A solid 20% of JotForm’s almost 2 million users are European, and they knew that creating more terms and conditions would not be a viable permanent solution. Instead, they quickly and efficiently managed to store European user data only in European servers and never transfer it back to the US.

JotForm’s dedicated servers in Germany are in Nuremberg and Frankfurt, which includes two separate data centers to ensure that users’ data will never be lost. They’ve built a solution that offers a EU Safe Mode, which means that their form data will be kept only on European servers. They’re pioneering this solution that is currently in beta where switching to European servers is optional. This is an important step forward in accomplishing the goal of making JotForm the online form builder of choice for those who require Safe Harbor certification. Users from all over the world, including European users, can rest easy knowing that their data is safe and secure.
